Penang National Park

Penang National Park is home of beautiful rainforest with cool treks and amazing beaches. Located in north-west part of Penang Island, it is considered the smallest National Park in the world but don’t let the size stops you from visiting as this park will literally take your breath away if you give it a chance.

15 minutes drive from Batu Ferringi Area. 45 minutes from Georgetown this place is worth your time and energy.

You can take Rapid Penang Bus 101 from Jetty to Teluk Bahang to go here if you don’t have your own car.

From entrance you can take 5 minutes boat ride to beautiful and lively monkey beach! (Yes there are monkeys around so take care of your food and belongings)

Last CNY weekend, I’m grateful that my family and  some of my friends had a chance to visit Penang National Park. And this is my 3nd time here.

If you are a group of 7-8 pax  like we were, you can hire one boat for 80rm two-ways. 160rm if you ask them to bring you to other beaches like Turtle beach and Kerachut Beach. We only did monkey beach because we came at noon time. Other beaches don’t have trees like monkey beach so it will be very very hot.

You can also easy hike for about 1 hour too. Hiking is the best if you don’t have little kids. Another additional hour if you want to hike up to the Muka Head lighthouse to see the majestic view of the forest, hills and beaches. If you are adventurous it will be a very beautiful hike.

Things to do in Monkey beach:

  • Pitch a tent and have a picnic. There are also stalls that allow you to rent a tent.
  • Go for a swim. It is safe? Absolutely. Just be careful when the water goes down at 6pm, spiky shells comes up and it’s dangerous for little ones. m
  • Do water sports. Banana boat, parasailing, donut ride, jetskibest if you are a group coz you can split the cost. 80 ringgit for 1 round of banana boat, only cost 11rm each. Super adrenaline pumping activity!!
  • Dig some clams and shells. Super therapeutic!

  • Camp there for a night. (We didn’t but I want to try one day)
  • Eat. There are some stalls that sells western and local food.

  • Go fishing!

You can also find a lot of swings here and my little one loves it so much!!!

This is my favourite beach in Penang because there’s no buildings here, no hotels no fancy restaurant. The best for nature lovers like me. It is laid back and peaceful in there. We spent most of our time digging clams that we actually brought home and cooked it for dinner.

This was us while trekking to monkey beach. It’s an easy 1 hour trek especially if it’s not rainy season. If you have not so heavy baby you can use baby carrier and some uses toddler hiking carrier too.

Along the trail are amazing beaches and rich flora and fauna. Great if you want to expose your kids to natural environment.

Grateful to have a chance to be here few times and to have access to this amazing creation of God.

Though being with a toddler in all my trips are challenging, it is possible and it can be done. The the joy they can bring is just immeasurable .

The benefits of bringing your child to nature trip are amazing! These books motivates me a lot when it comes to the importance of outdoor play and open-air learning :
